March Update and some April Goals

Well, March didn’t disappoint. The weather here was amazing and timing was perfect to ease up on the writing goals and enjoy it.

As for last months goals, I did really well. I sent out my queries, did some reading, and caught up on life stuff. Plus I was able to complete the third round of edits on 50 Proof. It’s been through the wringer and now I have a hard copy sitting on my desk waiting for the final pass before I hand it over to my beta readers. In the back of my mind I was hoping to have that step completed by the end of March, but I missed that pretend deadline by a few days. I’m not beating myself up over it- I’ve only been through this whole writing and revising process a couple of times so I’m not very good at estimating how much time each pass will take.

I know for certain it’ll be out of my hands by Easter, so onward to goals for April:

  1. Finish the hard copy round of edits
  2. Pass off to beta readers
  3. Query 6 more agents
  4. Dive into Book 3 edits

That last point is causing me some concern. Book 3, Kate’s story titled Something to Prove, was my Nano project from this past fall and between the fast paced writing and not having a great handle on the voice until a third of the way through, I think I’ll have my work cut out for me.

Either way, 50 Proof will have taken me three months to fully edit to the beta reader stage, so I’m sticking with that timeline again. That may mean more late night editing sessions, but so be it. I should add, those three months may not be consecutive because I’ll want to tend to 50 Proof once it’s back in my hands. But three months overall is the goal, putting it’s completion somewhere in the summer.

Something else I’ve been mulling over is writing a short story or mini series for my newsletter subscribers. I have yet to do anything special for all the lovely people who have subscribed over these past few months, and it’s about time I do something about that. I don’t have a firm handle on exactly what I want it to look like, but once I do I’ll need to schedule in time to do that.

That seems like a busy enough goal list for a month containing both a big holiday and my birthday. Just how far into Book 3 I get is a little up in the air…

And just fyi- I’m always on the search for more beta readers, so if this is something you have experience with and are interested in helping me out with, please let me know!
